Overview

The United Rural Development Service (URDS) is a non-political, non-sectarian, and non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare and development of rural communities in Manipur. Founded in 1992, URDS has been at the forefront of implementing programs that enhance the socio-economic conditions of the people, particularly in the hill and plain areas of the state.

Geographical Reach

Manipur, a state with sixteen districts, is the primary area of our operations. These districts include Bishnupur, Chandel, Churchandpur, Imphal-East, Imphal-West, Senapati, Tamenglong, Thoubal, Ukhrul, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl, Noney, Kamjong, Jiribam, and Kakching. Our head office is located in Heirok Village, Thoubal District, serving as the hub for our various programs and initiatives.

Mission and Vision

Vision: Our vision is to uplift rural masses by fostering healthy living, quality education, and socio-economic and cultural development.

Mission: Our mission is dedicated to serving the community, especially youth, women, children, the poor, and the destitute, with a focus on creating a healthy and strong nation through dedicated service and sacrifice.

Objectives and Activities

Our activities are diverse and aim to address various aspects of rural development:

  1. Vocational and Skills Training:

    • Running and maintaining vocational training centers, including those for tailoring, handicrafts, and computer skills.
    • Setting up and managing training programs for skill development in small-scale industries, agriculture, and more.
  2. Health and Welfare Services:

    • Providing rural health care, organizing free healthcare camps, and running orphanages and aged homes.
    • Offering rehabilitation services for drug addicts, handicapped individuals, and child laborers.
  3. Educational Initiatives:

    • Operating residential schools, libraries, and information centers to support educational development.
    • Conducting workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns on various educational and social issues.
  4. Agriculture and Horticulture:

    • Promoting agricultural and horticultural development through training, distribution of seeds and plants, and setting up farms for dairy, piggery, and poultry.
    • Running workshops on advanced agricultural techniques and environmental education.
  5. Cultural and Socio-Economic Development:

    • Organizing cultural activities and workshops to preserve traditional cultures and values.
    • Implementing projects for rural housing, community development, and environmental protection.
  6. Youth and Sports Development:

    • Engaging youth in development activities, social services, and environmental protection.
    • Hosting sports meets and cultural events to foster team spirit and showcase talent.
