1. Residential School of Scheduled Tribe Children
The United Rural Development Service (URDS), Heirok, Manipur, has been operating the Residential School for Scheduled Tribe children since 2000, with financial assistance from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. The school provides education from standard I to X and serves children from economically backward villages in hilly areas such as Heinoukhon, Thamlai, Machi, Maryland, Karongthel, Leirongthel, Wabaching, and Paringtong.
2. Senior Citizens' Home
The Senior Citizens’ Home, previously known as the Old Aged Home, is managed by the United Rural Development Service (URDS), Heirok, Thoubal District, Manipur. Located at Heirok Heituppokpi, this facility accommodates 25 destitute elderly individuals from various villages. The center operates with financial assistance from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi.

The Public Library cum Information Centre is situated on the campus of the United Rural Development Service, Heirok. It houses approximately 11,000 books covering a wide range of subjects. Since 2003 under the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata.

The school provides education from standard I to X and serves children from economically backward villages in hilly areas such as Heinoukhon, Thamlai, Machi, Maryland, Karongthel, Leirongthel, Wabaching, and Paringtong.

The Senior Citizens’ Home, previously known as the Old Aged Home, is managed by the United Rural Development Service (URDS), Heirok, Thoubal District, Manipur. Located at Heirok Heituppokpi, this facility accommodates 25 destitute elderly individuals from various villages. The center operates with financial assistance from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi.

Annual Progress report 2023 - 24
1. Residential School of Scheduled Tribe Children
United Rural Development Service (URDS), Heirok, Manipur, has been successfully running the Residential School for Scheduled Tribe children since 2000 with the financial assistance of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi (Tribal Development Division). This initiative has provided essential education and boarding facilities for children from economically backward scheduled tribe villages in hilly areas, ensuring they receive the support needed to succeed in their studies and beyond.
The school, titled “Advance Learner School (Residential),” offers education from standard 1 to X, providing free lodging, food, uniforms, medical care, and cultural and sports facilities for 100 children from various scheduled tribe villages. With the help of 23 dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff, the school is recognized by the Board of Secondary School, Manipur, to operate up to class X.
Educational Excursions and Activities
The school organizes an Annual Educational/Internal Excursion, with the most recent one taking place on June 20, 2023. The students and staff visited numerous significant locations, such as the Khongjom War Memorial, State Museum, Kangla Fort, Science Centre, and Botanical Garden, providing a valuable and enriching experience outside the classroom.
In addition to excursions, the school emphasizes co-curricular activities. These include the Annual Sports Meet in March, painting competitions, and the Teachers’ Day cum Prize Distribution Celebration held on September 5, 2023. The school also offers computer classes, ensuring that students gain essential digital skills alongside their academic education.
Health and Well-being
The well-being of students is a top priority at Advance Learner School (Residential). The children receive regular health check-ups, with a nurse and ayas available to attend to their health and nutritional needs. The school also provides structured meals, including breaks at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., and two lunches, ensuring the students are well-nourished and ready to learn.

- Education and Boarding: The school, named “Advance Learner School (Residential),” offers free food, lodging, medicine, and other essential services. Children receive free uniforms, textbooks, stationery, and cultural and sports facilities.
- Staff: There are 23 teaching and non-teaching staff members.
- Health and Nutrition: Regular health check-ups are conducted, with care provided by a nurse and support staff. Two meals and two snacks are provided daily.
Recognition:
The school has been recognized by the Board of Secondary School, Manipur, to offer classes up to X since 2005.
Activities and Events:
- Uniforms and Supplies: Students receive three sets of uniforms and necessary textbooks and stationery.
- Co-Curricular Activities: The school organizes an Annual Sports & Cultural Meet in March, an Annual Educational/Internal Excursion in June, a Painting Competition on May 1st, and a Teachers’ Day cum Prize Distribution Celebration in September.
Highlights of 2019:
Painting Competition: Held on May 1st with junior and senior sections competing in categories such as domestic birds and sanitation.
Quiz Competition: Conducted on August 15th to celebrate Independence Day.
Computer Class: Offered to students from Class VI to X.
Sports & Cultural Meet: Held from March 5th to 7th, featuring various sports and cultural events.
Teachers’ Day: Celebrated on September 5th with student performances and distribution of annual sports and cultural meet prizes.
The school continues to play a crucial role in providing education and support to Scheduled Tribe children, helping them achieve their full potential despite the challenges of their rural environment.
2. Old Age Home
The Senior Citizens’ Home, formerly known as the Old Aged Home, is operated by the United Rural Development Service (URDS) at Heirok-Heituppokpi, Thoubal District, Manipur. This facility, which supports 25 destitute elderly individuals from various villages, is funded by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi.
The center provides comprehensive care, including free food, lodging, medicines, and recreational activities. Regular medical check-ups are conducted to ensure the health and well-being of the residents. Additionally, the center offers daily newspapers, comics, and journals to keep the residents engaged and informed. Educational materials like slates, chalks, pencils, and exercise books are provided to promote adult literacy.
The Senior Citizens’ Home also organizes annual cultural events, such as the folk tale program, which celebrates traditional storytelling. On November 20, 2023, an outing was arranged to significant holy sites, including Govindaji Temple at Imphal, Kaina Temple, and Mondum Mahadeva, offering the residents both spiritual enrichment and a change of scenery.

- Personnel: One Librarian and one Assistant Librarian manage the library, with their salaries covered by the organization to serve the readers’ interests.
Additional Facilities:
- Established: Since 2003 under the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata.
- Amenities: Provides reading facilities, daily newspapers, weekly papers, journals, employment news, and free book borrowing. A color television and proper furniture are also available.
Community Engagement:
- Users: The library primarily serves youths, students, and village elders from Heirok, Wangjing, Salungpham, Kairembikhok, Wabaching, Maryland, Heinoukhong, and Thamlai.
- Attendance: Approximately 500 individuals visited for reading during the financial year.
- Membership: 520 members are registered for borrowing books.
4. Other Programmes Undertaken By the Organisation.
The Annual Sports and Cultural Meet, held from March 11, 2024, brought together students in a vibrant showcase of athleticism and creativity. The event kicked off early in the morning with a torch rally, symbolizing the start of a day full of competitive spirit and camaraderie.
Throughout the sports meet, students competed in a diverse range of events, including carom, badminton, skipping rope, sepak takraw, and various races such as the 100m, 500m, and marathon. They also participated in football, kabaddi, discus throw, high-jump, long-jump, blind-hitting, and cock-fighting, with competitions divided into sub-junior, junior, and senior categories.
The cultural meet, held on March 19, 2024, showcased the artistic talents of the students. The final day featured vibrant performances in song, recitation, dance, and quiz programs, celebrating the students’ creativity and enthusiasm.

- Trainers: 4 resource persons conducted sessions on the various topics.
2. Agricultural and Horticultural Development Programme
- Activities:
- Farmers’ Training Programme
- Distribution of Seeds and Nursery Plants
- Focus Areas: Techniques and technologies in agriculture and horticulture.
- Distribution: Ginger seeds, peas, potato seeds, and nursery plants of banana, lemon, and mango trees provided to 45 farmers at no cost.
3. Skill Development Programme
- Date: December 16-20, 2019
- Location: URDS Training Hall
- Participants: 20 carpenters
- Objective: Upgradation of skills in furniture making.
These programmes aim to enhance leadership skills, improve agricultural practices, and develop vocational skills among the local community.

- Educational Levels: Offers education from Class I to Class V (Primary School).
- Student Body: Hosts 100 children from various Scheduled Tribe villages.
- Facilities: Provides free food, lodging, uniforms, medicine, and sports facilities.
- Uniforms: Students receive three sets of uniforms, including white shirts and coffee or white pants for boys and girls.
- Textbooks & Stationery: Distributed at the beginning of classes and throughout the year as needed.
- Staff: Employs 23 teaching and non-teaching staff members.
Recognition:
The school has been recognized by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, to offer education up to Class X since 2005, under Recognition No. 1154/Ull7291.
The school plays a crucial role in enhancing educational opportunities and living standards for children in this underserved region.

- Staffing: Managed by two dedicated staff members—a Librarian and an Assistant Librarian—whose salaries are funded by the organization to ensure smooth operation.
The library is committed to supporting the educational and informational needs of the community.
4. Bal Shiksha Diwas:
The “Bal Shiksha Diwas” programmes were conducted during the year 2018-2019 on various dates, organized by the United Rural Development Service (URDS) in Heirok. These events were supported by different agencies to promote educational resources and support for students.

1. Residential School of Scheduled Tribe Children
The nearby hilly villages like Heinoukhong, Thamlai, Machi, Marryland, Karongthel, Leirongthel, Wabaching, Paringtong ,etc.are so much economically backwards scheduled tribe viliages and situated a long distance from high way and poor communication areas. Hence, The United Rural Development Service (URDS) Heirok has been running a Residential School under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of lndia New Delhi ( Tribal Development Division) since 2000 for Scheduled Tribes children. The school has been providing & free fooding and lodging facilities in the school boarding. They have also been provided free outing ,medicine, uniform, cultural , sports facilities etc. There are 23 teaching and non teaching staff.

The United Rural Development Service, Heirok, is home to a well-equipped Public Library and Information Centre. The library boasts a collection of approximately 10,000 diverse books covering various subjects. Our collection includes:
– Reference and Textbooks: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Botany, Mathematics, Geography, History, Civics & Economics, Political Science.
– Literature: Books in different languages and genres.
– Special Collections: Children’s books, medicinal books, agricultural literature, and more.
In addition to the extensive book collection, the library subscribes to five local newspapers, telegraphs, employment news, weekly journals, and other periodicals.
To ensure smooth operation and management, the library is supported by two dedicated staff members: a Librarian and an Assistant Librarian. Their salaries are covered by the organization to serve the best interests of our readers and maintain the library’s excellent standards.
The centre provides free cost offooding, lodging, medicines and recreational items with outing to the innates. Medical health check-up ofthe aged persons are done frequently in a month.
